My first MMORPG I played was a Sci-Fi space game called DarkSpace, roughly from 2006 to 2007. It was mainly PvP which once in a while spawned some Alien NPC's. The game consisted of 3 different Factions, each competing to take over 'The Metaverse' that consisted of 7 different Constellations with about 40 Planets total. Each Planet could be built up with defenses to slow down and hopefully stop others from taking control. I was mainly an Engineer who built up the Planets after being conquered and also provided backup support in a combat Cruiser.
I heard about Eve Online from the other players in chat and their reviews of this game was very negative, to the point that I said I would never sub with Eve and just plain didn't think about Eve at all.
Sometime later after that the majority of Fleet Members I was flying with but hadn't actually joined up with did a planned stealth allegiance flip and the next thing I knew I was being attacked by them. These were people I had been flying with daily for months. I definitely didn't like being stabbed in the back and since I was an excellent Engineer, I placed my application with another Fleet and was quickly accepted. Needless to say after a couple of months I pretty much had my fill of PvP and basically stopped logging into that game.
About 6 months after I stopped playing that game, mid 2008, I was watching Battlestar Galactica on Sy-Fy channel and saw this TV commercial. At first I thought it was part of the TV series until I saw the Eve Online logo at the end. After doing a goggle search and spending a couple weeks viewing various Eve Online info guides and videos (mostly Exploration vids by DNightmare), I subbed to the game and have been with Eve ever since.n++
After creating my character I found myself in an NPC corp mainly filled with Industrial players doing Mining and Manufacturing. I was hooked into exploration due to the DNightmare vids and realized I had a lot of skills to train. At that time there was a skill group called Learning Skills which accelerated training time so I trained those along with Core Fitting skills as well as ship, defensive and offensive skills. Exploration was not like it is today, it was a highly skilled specialized career that not many players did. It required multiple probes of various types and took much longer time to find site's.
Right after I trained up to do the old probing mechanic, almost a year after I had joined, CCP released the exploration remake expansion called Apocrypha in March 2009. Much to my dismay they had reduced the level of skills needed to ensure the new content was easily available to all. Competition was scarce at that time and since I was now over skilled I quickly jumped into exploration. Exploration is and always will be my first and foremost career path here in Eve.
Now I just wanna make it clear I never did any Mining when I started. I did regular missions and at that time Thukker Shield Extenders were a much sought after Market item. However in the course of doing Thukker missions to get Loyalty Points for the Shield Extenders to sell in market to get the required skills and equipment I needed to do Exploration, I nearly destroyed my Faction standings that allowed me to enter most of High Security space. Not good for business and since I was doing exploration career, I needed to fix that issue. After being told there was no way to have positive standings with all Empire Factions, I spent a few months doing research and created a plan of action to correct that issue.
After testing for a couple of months to make sure it worked, I released the first draft of the Faction Standing Repair Plan to the playerbase on 2-4-2010 in the 'Missions & Complexes' sub-forum. 'The Plan' was quickly accepted and praised by a lot of players.
Time and time again it proved itself to be the easiest and quickest way to not only repair negative Faction standings, but to also boost positive Faction standings as well. It went through a few revisions and when the new Forums became active on 9-10-2011, I posted the final draft of 'The Plan' for all Capsuleers to use in CCP's Eve Wiki called Evelopedia (now discontinued) along with a thread in the new Forums for 'Questions & Comments'.
About a month later on 10-26-2011, 'The Plan' was acknowledged and praised by CCP Spitfire in this thread. After multiple requests from players, 'The Plan' thread was finally made sticky on 5-11-2015 by ISD Ezwal.
I've had multiple players at various times acknowledge and or contact me in-game via Local chat, Evemail and or personal convo request due to 'The Plan', even though over the years I've been very active in the forums helping answer questions about exploration and missions. 'The Plan' has even been condensed and copied into other Wiki's. Believe me, I never expected to become Eve Famous for sharing info that others had overlooked for years.
Anyway, that's my 'Claim To Fame' here in Eve and I'm proud to have helped the Eve playerbase with that contribution.
